DWY Landscape Architects were entrusted with redefining the landscape at 190 16th Street, creating a distinctive identity that embodies the owners’ vision of privacy, elegance, and refined outdoor living. Our design approach introduced a series of curated interventions that both shield the residence from the public gaze and enrich the arrival experience with layers of visual and spatial intrigue.

A palette of tall palms establishes a striking vertical presence, casting dynamic shadows that play across the home's façade, while strategically placed plantings along the property lines craft a lush, verdant screen, ensuring both seclusion and a sense of retreat. The entry sequence is thoughtfully articulated through a new pedestrian gate and bespoke path, guiding visitors through a meticulously composed landscape that harmonizes with the architecture.

Vines cascade elegantly over the front elevation, infusing the exterior with botanical vibrancy and texture, while carefully positioned accent plantings punctuate the formal entrance, enhancing its sense of arrival. Throughout the garden, the interplay of scale, texture, and color serves to create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering a tranquil, immersive environment.

Despite the challenges of working within the constraints of the public right of way and a compact site, the project successfully achieves a sense of timelessness and immediate establishment, enveloping the residence in a landscape that feels both intentional and natural. The success of this transformation is further evidenced by the homeowners' decision to engage DWY for their subsequent project in the neighborhood, underscoring the enduring impact of our design philosophy.
