David W. Young, ASLA, founded DWY Landscape Architects in 1999 and has dedicated his talent and career to creating meaningful spaces that touch the lives of the people who encounter them. He believes it is important for people to reconnect with nature and considers landscape architecture the perfect platform for this to occur. As a Florida native with over 22 years of experience in all aspects of the landscape architecture profession, David has a depth of regional knowledge that informs his design decisions for the built environment. He thrives on a diversity of project types – working on residential communities, commercial and mixed use, parks, transportation, educational and cultural planning projects to private estate gardens. David’s passion for modern architecture shows in much of the firm’s work which is often edited to achieve a sense of rigor and structure. His desire is to create a design vocabulary that is in touch with the ‘spirit’ of the architecture while in harmony with the site and natural environment. David has been the recipient of multiple prestigious awards for environmental sustainability and design excellence from the Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and was presented the FLASLA Environmental Sustainability Award of Honor in 2012.
David is an alumnus of the University of Florida and currently sits on the Board of Trustees of the Sarasota Conservation Foundation. A native of Naples, he has lived in the Sarasota area for over 20 years with his wife and has two sons.
